Walk-in closets and custom storage

A good closet is planned around what you actually own — long coats, folded sweaters, shoes, bags — not just a rod and a shelf. We design and build storage that uses the space properly.

Custom walk-in closet with white and oak built-ins, hanging sections, shelves and drawers

Overview

Most builder-grade closets waste a surprising amount of space: one rod, one shelf and a lot of empty wall above and below.

Closet projects range from fitting a reach-in with a proper system to converting a small bedroom into a walk-in dressing room. Either way, we start with an inventory of what needs to be stored and plan the hanging, shelving and drawers around it.

Scope

What walk-in closets can include

  • Built-in closet systems

Double-hang and long-hang sections, adjustable shelving, drawers and shoe storage fitted to the space.

  • Walk-in closet remodels

Reworking an existing walk-in with new storage, lighting, flooring and finishes.

  • Room-to-closet conversions

Turning a spare bedroom or alcove into a dressing room, including doors, lighting and trim.

  • Lighting

Overhead and integrated lighting so you can actually see what you are choosing.

  • Finishes

Paint, flooring and hardware that tie the closet to the adjoining bedroom.

Permits and licensed-trade requirements depend on your project and municipality and are confirmed in each written scope.

Before you reach out

Questions worth thinking about

  • Roughly what are the closet's dimensions, and where are the door and any windows?
  • What do you need to store most — hanging clothes, folded items, shoes, accessories?
  • Is this one person's closet or shared?
  • Is the closet part of a larger bedroom or suite project?

Not sure about some of these? That is fine — we can work through them together.

Cost factors

What affects the price

Every property is different, so we do not publish set prices. These are the factors that move the number most.

Size and layout
Wall length and ceiling height determine how much storage is built.
System type
Modular systems and fully custom built-ins differ in cost and flexibility.
Drawers and accessories
Drawers, pull-outs and specialty storage add cost compared with open shelving.
Construction changes
Moving walls or doors for a conversion adds carpentry and finishing.
Lighting and electrical
New lighting may require electrical work by a licensed electrician.

Process

How a project moves forward

  1. Step 1

    Tell us about the project

Use the form to share the service, location and what you want to change. Photos help but are optional.

  2. Step 2

    Initial conversation

We review your request and follow up to ask questions and confirm whether the project is a good fit.

  3. Step 3

    Site visit when needed

Most projects need an in-person look before a firm scope can be written. Visits are scheduled by mutual confirmation.

  4. Step 4

    Written scope and estimate

You receive a written description of the proposed work and price for review. Nothing is binding until a contract is signed.

  5. Step 5

    Scheduling and the work

Start dates, permits and selections are confirmed in writing before work begins.

  6. Step 6

    Final walkthrough

We walk the finished work with you and address punch-list items.

Closet projects start with measurements and a quick inventory of what you need to store; that shapes the layout before any materials are chosen.

This is our proposed process. Timing, visits and terms are confirmed for each project in writing.

FAQ

Walk-In Closets questions

Can a reach-in closet be improved, or do I need a walk-in?

Many reach-in closets can hold far more with a proper system. If you need more space than the closet can give, we can look at conversions.

Can you convert a spare bedroom into a walk-in closet?

Usually, yes. Keep in mind it may affect how the home's bedroom count is described when you sell; that is worth considering before deciding.

Do you include lighting?

Lighting can be part of the scope. Any electrical work is completed by appropriately licensed trades.

How long does a closet project take?

Timing depends on whether the system is modular or custom-built and on material lead times. We confirm a schedule with your scope.
